FAQ

? Why use a tour operator such as Links Golf Ireland?

We are an experienced tour operator based in Ireland with our own fleet of tour vehicles and relationships with over 200 tried and tested accommodation providers.

With local offices in Ireland, we pride ourselves in being available 24/7 for you to contact during your tour.

Our hospitality knows no boundaries. Golf is our passion and we understand the expectations of golfers.

? Can you book our flights?

As an industry standard 99% of tour operators don’t get involved in air travel arrangements. As most clients are using air miles or traveling separately it works best for people to look after there own flight arrangements.

We can advise which airline flies into Dublin, Shannon or Belfast. We are based close to Dublin airport and have an office near Shannon and Belfast International Airport.

We suggest flying into Shannon or Dublin and commence your trip from here. Some airlines allow you to fly into Dublin and out of Shannon or vice versa - This allows you to cover more ground on your tour with less travel.

? When should we book?

To player certain courses (especially South West Ireland), you need to book well in advance. Tee times for courses such as Ballybunion are often sold out by the end of January.

We suggest opening a dialogue with us at least 60 days before you intend to travel. Tee times in Scotland are also highly sought after with the Old Course at St. Andrews being most in demand.

You are best off getting the deposit in early and getting commitment from you group. Groups of 8 or more require some work on behalf of the person dealing directly with us – Known as the Golf Ambassador.

? What happens after we enquire?

We will respond to you to acknowledge your enquiry with an email.

Between a combination of phone and email we will tailor a proposal for you to review and consider booking.

? Can we customize our tour?

Of course you can.

We will help you make the right choices based on your budget and travel requirements.

If you have non golfers traveling we will also provide suggestions for sight seeing and other leisure activities.

? What happens after we book?

Your golf tee times, accommodation and transport will be booked in order to reserve times immediately.

We will email you a confirmation outlining the itinerary and provide listings of other golf activities such as dining, entertainment and sightseeing.

? What happens when we arrive?

If you have selected a chauffeur driven option, we will have someone to greet you at the airport and take it from there.

Our directors try as often as possible to personally meet our guests and spend a day or two with each of our escorted tours.

If you are self driving we will have provided a package with instructions for when you arrive including: Golf and Accommodation vouchers, Maps, Travel Times, Places of Interest, dining recommendations and general information.

Driving is on the left side of the road and anti-drink driving is strictly enforced.

? What accommodation options are available?

We only work with hotels and guesthouse that cater specifically for golfers with en suite rooms. Guesthouses or bed & breakfasts are a more economical option and are often located away from central attractions.

If you want the comfort and amenities of a hotel then you can expect 4 or 5 star standards comparable to the best in the world.

Three star hotels in Ireland are considered the best in Europe and on a par with most European four stars.

Our quotations for accommodation are based on double/twin occupancy – standard room sharing unless noted otherwise. Accommodation includes breakfast and taxes. Please let us know your requirements at the time of booking.

? The Weather in Ireland?

Despite the myth that it rains here all the time, we enjoy a temperate climate allowing for golf year round. The peak season for golf travel is mid May to mid October.

Ireland is an island so the weather tends to change often giving the weather folks a tough time! Our advice is to bring good rain gear – outerwear, hats, rain gloves and waterproof shoes.

April and October are considered the quieter sides of the season and the weather can be a pleasant dry, bright and 60 degrees for good stretches.

? What dress codes and requirements do the courses have?

Some courses have a written rule that tailored shorts must be worn with knee high socks. Some courses enforce this but rarely. Be prepared to buy knee high socks in the pro shop if the club secretary asks!

Collared shirts or polar neck shirts are allowed. Jeans and t-shirts are not permitted.

Some clubhouses require a jacket and tie to eat or drink in the bar/restaurant. Hats are requested not to be worn within the clubhouses.

Soft spikes are also required by the majority. Handicaps are expected at some courses with the maximum men’s being 24 and women’s 36. Bring your card just in case.

? Do we need travel insurance?

Yes. We suggest you pre-arrange specialized travel insurance.

Links Golf Ireland does not accept responsibility for loss, damage or theft of any belongings, accident or injury, illness or air delays affecting the trip.

See the travel insurance section of our website.

? Do the clubs have caddies and power carts?

The majority of the time we can arrange for caddies when given plenty of notice.

Most clubs have golf carts – Known as buggies in Ireland. We cannot guarantee the availability of caddies and take no responsibility for caddies not showing up or buggies and carts being unavailable.

For the use of motorized buggies a very small number of courses require a medical cert or doctor’s letter outlining the reason for requirement.

? What currency do we need?

Euro is the currency in the Republic of Ireland.

If you are taking the Causeway Trail or playing a custom tour in Northern Ireland then UK Sterling (pounds) would be needed for cash purchases.

Major credit cards are widely accepted in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Click here to check current exchange rates.
